READING, WRITING
Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says that not all religions of the world were/are monotheistic or polytheistic. Siddhartha Guatama (500 BC) was rich, but saw that people are never content, and that possessions and even identities disappear at death. So he asked what was the point of life. Buddhism (India), Confuscianism (China), Stoicism (and Cynicism, and Epicureanism) (Mediterranean Basin) are all "natural law" religions that began & developed around 1000-500 BC.
Read for 1+ page in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls making several "PR" trips during his campaign: He went with General Petreas to Iraq (Miliki newly installed post Sadam Hussein) and posed for pictures in aviator glasses, while McCain posed in a golf cart with G.H.W.Bush on the same day when both pics were released. BO was a lucky guy sometimes.
Read for 1+ page in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughn-Lee. He says we must let love and knowledge grow, and use it for the purposes of God, and not of ourselves: then we will experience the personal revelation of WHY WE ARE HERE, something that has not been fully realized for many generations.
I want to know why I am here. But since that is an elusive quest (for me, anyway), I will continue to seek and find meaning and purpose in my day-to-day activities.
He also says ancient buildings (geometries) provided spiritual connection between one & many; today, it's spiritual groups which perform this function.
Read for 1+ page in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says (after Part I (4 chapters on the elephant-rider metaphor) & Part II (4 chapters on the 6 taste buds metaphor) ) he will now address the 3rd aspect of his proposal in this book: Morality binds and blinds. He'll explore what religion is (not necessarily a bad thing, but an evolution of human need for "hive" activity (i.e., helping others, losing oneself), and how the "rest of us" are chimps, selfish and hypocritical. He'll also discuss how we come/came to be "conservative" or "liberal" or "libertarian," and how we use these terms.
(NOTE: I'm kinda rusty on these ideas, since I "took a month off" from any routine activity; I'll explore why that happened some other time. I will note here, however, that this morning, I lay in bed and decided to clear my mind. I don't know WHY I decided to do it. But I began by doing my "SILENCE" section of my SLLLAVERS routine. I just simply did it (60 seconds of silence, followed by meditation/prayer, followed by breathing exercises, followed by self-examination, followed by simple in-bed exercises, followed by......... And then I did the next step. I don't know why - I just did it. And here I am, almost at the end of my daily routine. I don't know why I did it today. I just did it.)
