READING, WRITING
Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says Buddism evolved into a religion that asks and strives to answer the question: "Suffering exists. How do I escape it?" (compared to Western Monotheism, which asks: "God exists. What does he want from me?"
Read for 70 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls making tours of foriegn countries and their leaders, and how he was faced with and addressed international challenges involving war, poverty, expense..... he was privately overwhelmed, but he was also gratified to know that he passed the "looking Presidential" test.
I am impressed, more now from reading this account, at how America does things. We change presidents every 4 (or 8) years, and rightly so, since we could be stuck with a bad one (even 4 years of trump was too, too, too too long). But the world seems to understand this, and the possibly successful presidential candidates are welcomed, in advance, by the heads of other states. They know that working with a new President Obama would entail x, y, and z...... and they develop their own opinions and strategies well in advance of the actual election. IOW, we don't wait until November to get ready for the next round.
Read for 70 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughyan-Lee. He says the web of love/light/knowledge is NOT heirarechal, and NOT structural, but organic, and flowing. Aspects of this new order of love FLOW to places they are needed, and do not follow any given paths. In this way, all needs are met.
Read for 70 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says (I inadvertantly re-read the same passage as last reading, but that's good because of the time elapsed since the last reading, but also because of my poor retention of what I read; I will add, however, that my retention is improving noticably as I continue regular reading/writing sessions: the more frequent the better).
He says that we humans are 90% selfish (apes) and 10% altruistic (bees); that most of our altruism is directed to others of our own kind; that morality is very likely a product of these social structures, and not of religion. He'll explore the question, "Why are some people conservative, or liberal, or libertarian?" and how we got to be who we are. FASCINATING!!
Read for 70 seconds in AN AMERICAN FAMILTY by Jon and Michael Galluccio.
Read for 70 seconds in THE PERSIAN BOY by Mary Renault.
