READING
Read for 80 seconds in HOW TO BIOHACK YOUR BRAIN by Kristin Myeumyay. She says
- left & right brain understanding has mostly come from a now discontinued procedure that CUT the CORPUS CALLOSUM - the connection between the LEFT BRAIN & RIGHT BRAIN. They did this to stop epileptic seizures from travelling between the hemispheres. We learned that
- RHed and LHed people use BOTH sides of their brains
- LEFT BRAIN: generally responsible for
- language
- comprehension
- math
- writing
- speech ability
- Also left hemisphere has more neurons than right hemisphere.
- RIGHT BRAIN: generally responsible for
- spatial orientation,
- visual & artistic abilities
- face recognition
- musicality
- emotion arbitration
- nonverbal communication arbitration
MY NOTE: I wonder why I develped a stronger LEFT brain than RIGHT; I have strong abilities on both sides, but the LEFT skills are significantly stronger, overall.
I'm also led to ask, for each item above, is it "memory of these things?" or is it "skill in these things?" As I continue learning music/piano theory & playing songs, will I be developing more neurons in my RIGHT BRAIN?
Looking forward to learning more about the brain, and about MY brain.
Read for 80 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He says while he was not averse to adding US troops to Afghanistan, the Pentagon wanted way more troops than he thought was necessary; he asked for opinions from others.
Read for 80 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says in art history, from long ago (Memling's painting about chastity, 1475) up through today (bumper sticker "My body is an amusement park"), society has dealt with a spectrum of views regarding the Sanctity/degredation foundation.
Read for 80 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl. What he says in this passage warrants a typing of his actual words:
The fact remains that meaning, and its perception, as seen from the logotherapeutic angle, is completely down to earth rather than afloat in the air or resident in an ivory tower. Sweepingly, I would locate the cognition of meaning - of the personal meaning of a concrete situation - midway between an "aha" experience along the lines of Karl Buehler's concept and a Gestalt perception, say, along the lines of Max Wertheimer's theory. The perception of meaning differs from the classical concept of Gestalt perception insofar as the latter implies the sudden awareness of a "figure" on a "ground," whereas the perception of meaning, as I see it, more specifically boils down to becoming aware of a possibility against the background of reality or, to express it in plain words, to becoming aware of what can be done about a given situation.
And how does a human being go about finding meaning? As Charlotte Buehler has stated: "All we can do is study the lives of people who seem to have found their answers to the questions of what ultimately human life is about as against those who have not." In addition to such a biographical approach, however, we may as well embark on a biological approach."
Frankl goes on to describe how trying to define our meaning (i.e., the meaning of our lives) must also include the evolutionary biology of our set of hierarchical values.

I've noticed lately that twisting my body to the right, to reach books from my shelf, used to give me a muscle spasm in my back that was quite painful, but was remedied by stretching in the other direction, over a period of about 15 seconds. Today, at least, this no longer happens. I wonder why.
