READING, WRITING

Read for 60 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says that 2 centuries of monotheism have caused modern-day Sapiens to think of polytheistic cultures as silly, etc.  But actually, it can be determined that each of the polytheistic cultures/religions ultimately had ONE supreme god to which the lesser gods were subject.

I'm reminded of an interview of a Mormon in Switzerland, broadcast on the radio; the host asked a few questions about Mormon doctrine, and from the answers, he concluded, "Donc, il y a plusieurs dieux?" to which the Mormon answered, "Oui."  The host then replied, "Vous le dites, je le note."

Pluralistic ideas did not die out in ancient times!

Read for 60 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins.  He says if an editor/publisher says "no" then accept it and move on; DO NOT try to change their mind!!  However, if they say they want to work with me, but just not right now, then that's different; stay in touch!

This seems obvious to me.

Read for 1+ page in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls the huge challenge of dealing with Rev. Wright ("God DAMN America"), which he did in a speech; his strategy worked.  YAY!

I continue to learn more about BO's rise to the Presidency, and as I do, I continue to be increasingly impressed by his stability and logic with which he approached each step/challenge along the campaign trail.  Yes, HE is the reason Trump was able to garner such solid fealty among White Republicans, but simultaneously, he also showed character, leadership and loyalty to America.

Read for 1+ page in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughn-Lee.  He says the mystics must help us all awake to the reality of the "plane of unity" and its energy; he gives the example of computers, which do both of 1) unite us in universal knowledge of everything, and 2) isolate us from each other.  He suggests that even without our knowledge or approval, the plane of unity is at work among all of us.

Read for 1+ page in AN AMERICAN FAMILY by Jon and Michael Galluccio.   This book is making me cry:  when Michael first saw his new son, he "fell in love for the 2nd time in his life."

Read for 1+ page in THE PERSIAN BOY by Mary Renault.

Read for 60 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says that religions developed among Sapiens and the forces of Nature, to the point that humans blamed themselves for natural disasters; eventually the animals (ants to elephants) became silent in human thinking, and humans began to think of themselves as the central beings of existance; the God(s) and the animals were "tools" humans used to achieve their aims.  Such aims might merely be to explain what was happening on the planet.  Or perhaps to find favor and reward from imaginary gods. 

Read for 60 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins.  He says I should consider the "rules" of each publisher (e.g., we'll let you know in 3 weeks) and then follow up with them.  Also, don't pretend that other publishers are interested if they're not; I can tell one that I've submitted my piece to others (if true), and that might motivate them to reply earlier.

Read for 1 page+ in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls how he was ahead in the race for the D nomination (ahead of Hillary), but then he spread himself too thin between Texas and Ohio, and lost both; this was followed by the video of his pastor (_______) who had said, in various sermons, things like "Not God bless America.  God DAMN America" and other "unAmerican" things like that.  BO called this a "Roger Ailes fever dream."

NOTE:  Roger Ailes is now dead (2017); he was the Chairman and CEO of FOX News.

Read for 1 page+ in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.  He says that mystics come to an understanding that there is nothing static or separate; that every part of this existance is an illusion; that mystics are like Plato's man who leaves the cave and is often thought of as a wild man.

Read for 1 page+ in AN AMERICAN FAMILY by Jon and Michael Galluccio.  They describe how they came to be (foster) parents of a drug-addicted HIV+ baby boy in New Jersey, just before Christmas, 1995.

Read for 1 chapter in DEMON HAUNTED WORLD by Carl Sagan.  I'm reading this with Cecil & Tom of Cognitive Dissonance The Podcast, and they're on Chapter 9 where they discuss what Sagan wrote about therapy, and also abductions, and how you deal with what you FEEL, what you REMEMBER, and what is ultimately REAL.

READING, WRITING

Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says that Sapiens "lost control" over plants and animals (post-Agricultural Revoluion, 12K-8K BC), and thereafter began to ascribe power to heal to the gods.  Genesis is a prime example.  Greek fertility godess, another.  Sapiens perceived of the situation as a contract between them and the gods:  in exchange for a lifetime of fecundity, a lifetime of devotion.

Makes sense to me that that's what happened.

Read for 70 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins.  He says I need to be consistent, but not annoying; check in weekly with the publisher; offer to re-write the article; ask if there's anything else I can do; remind him/her that other publications are considering pieces on this subject.

Read for 1+ page in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls feeling like a circus bear in a cage (as a candidate for the Dem Pres Nomination)..... he felt trapped which he disliked, but he also realized that he was really on the path to governance, which fit into his dreams/plans.  So he played cards when he was alone.  (This probably means that he played Solitaire)

Read for 1+ page in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.  He says that the Oneness is waiting for us to ask him to help him redeem his world.  (What?)

I am 70+ years old, and during my 7 decades here on Earth, I have worshipped and attempted to communicate directly with God - the Mormon one, at first, and then later, the entity I call "Creator-God."  At no time that I can clearly recall did I perceive an answer to my calls for connection and help from my God.  I would often look around and attempted to console myself by saying things like "Nature is God's answer," and "No one gets to talk directly to God, like humans talk to each other," and other such explanations for God's silence.  And then life would get in the way, and I'd go about living for another hour/day/week/month/year/decade.

At any rate, here is yet another human being (Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee) who wrote this book (WORKING WITH ONENESS), attempting to explain what's going on with the people of Earth.  He has painted a picture of at least 3 groups of beings:  1)  God(s), 2) Intermediaries answering God's call, and 3)  Remaining humanity.  He also describes an urgency of the Intermediaries who are called by God to help God redeem his world.  I'm not sure what that means in Vaughan-Lee's mind, but it certainly sounds a lot like the Mormon Plan of Salvation, and/or other organized religions' ideas about what's going on here.

This merits further contemplation; I hope I don't let life get in the way too much; at the very least, my expectation is to continue reading in this book.
