READING, WRITING
Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says William Jones (Brit) studied languages, and is credited with providing the framework of language study; this proved invaluable for imperialist nations to "adopt" or conquer their Empire nations. Britain invaded & conquered India (1700s), and laid waste, leading to the Bengal famine in which millions died.
Interesting that I should read this passage now, when, in America, Blacks are "fighting" to keep their slavery history alive in school history books. Harari asks "how could a small country (Brit) conquer a 300 million population country (India) and rule it for 2 centuries?" Answer: They studied the culture & language of India.
Read for 70 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls the extreme challenges he had during the transition from Bush to Obama in 2009, and how he "put his had on the knife" in support of Bush's disastrous "gift" to Obama's presidency: RECESSION. But he had a plan ($1Trillion) and would essentially ask for double what most left-leaning economists recommended. He knew that many Americans would be washed away anyway.
Read for 70 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee. He says now is the time for our inner & outer worlds to dance together. Imagination is no longer daydreaming or even nightdreaming, but present in our consciousness. The doorway is there, and we are sweeping it clean so that we can connect the two worlds. The children riding unicorns are now visible (although they've always been there in the forest). This is the song of God.
(***** GEORGE WANTS ME TO READ THIS TO HIM AGAIN SOMETIME LATER*******)
(happy tone in this passaage)
Read for 70 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says that in a psychopath, the rider has no control at all over the elephant. And studies show that infants are very likely BORN with moral judgment (e.g., the infants who stare longer at good puppets/people obviously prefer good people). Haidt concludes that morality is universal.... not learned.
A possibly troubling detail: His studies look at 6 month old infants; they COULD have "learned" morality between conception and 6 months old..... in some way? It's possibly possible.
Read for 70 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl. He says he "developed" his approach to psychotherapy, which he calls "logotherapy," based on his search for meaning in his life, and as a result of his experiences in Auschwitz.
Freud: pleasure seeking
Alder (?): power seeking
Frankl: meaning seeking
He also distinguishes his psychotherapy - or LOGOtherapy - as compared to Past, Present, and Future. His approach is to assist the patient to discover the meaning of his life, and how to determine how that knowledge will assist him in his future life.
Read for 70 seconds in SUPERIOR by Angela Saini. She says a lot of general things about homosapiens and how we came to be who we are today: the ability to reason and to create complex are make us "modern," she says. She could be right.
