READING, WRITING
Read 1 Rumi thought.
Read 80 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says
NOTE: Before I write about what I've read, I have to confess to myself, and to whomever might read this some day, that I actually read 332 pages of this book, and then stopped reading for long periods (for a month , sometimes). Today, I removed my book mark, and became confused about where I'd left off. It took me 15 minutes to recall, by the aid of my most recent writing, exactly where I'd left off. How totally reflective of my sometimes poor memory, and of my inconsistent habits (lately) of doing my routine. So, I hereby RESOLVE to attempt actually doing my routine EVERY DAY. This will lead to positive results: more knowledge of humankind, better memory, better self-esteem (along with better health & better relationships with family & friends).
(on p. 333) that in the 1830s, the Brits send Rawlinson to Persia to help them modernize their military. He became aware of Darius I's Behistun inscription etched high on a cliff in the Zagos Mountains, in 3 languages (1) Old Persian, 2) Elamite, and 3) Babylonian). No one could read it, but Rawlinson resolved to try. He send samples back to England.
Read 80 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls as President-elect, forming his team to tackle the economic crisis left by W (Bush). The issues he describes as his pre-term challenges seem eerily similar to those Biden has faced today, some 12 years later: unemployment, deficit spending, welfare, housing...... I guess they're really HUMAN issues, likely never to disappear from the President's desk (unless we get another Trump).
Read 80 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee. He introduces the concept & identity of CONIUNCTIO:
Western thought locates the soul within a hierarchical structure of existence.
This originated in Plato.
The lowest level is the Sensory World
The highest level is the World of Ideas and Forms
The intermediary level gives the soul potential to link the levels, and to see unity among the multiple sense impressions.
Plotinus (who developed the Platonic Theory), saw the soul as being able to link the levels, and to link the sole with IMAGINATION.
The Platonic theory includes linking the soul to imagination, and to realizing that there is no hierarchy, and that both the "highest" and "lowest" are present in every part of every soul. From this concept is born "CONIUNCTIO" - neither female nor male, with the ability to link the soul to imagination.
(I think)
Read 80 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says "moral judgment" is not something we evaluate and think and write about. It's more like how animals react: MORAL JUDGMENT IS MOSTLY DONE BY THE ELEPHANT. (i.e., not by the Rider)
(next section)
What are psychopaths? 1 in 100 (mostly men) are psychopaths. Defined by a) what they do, and b) what they DON'T feel.
They seem to live in a world of objects (some of the objects are other people).
(Donald Trump comes to mind.)
Read 80 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl. He says there was such a thing as "ART" in the concentration camps. Prisoners would forgo meals to participate, singing Italian arias and the like. This "ART" was designed (who designed it??) to help the men forget; it worked to a degree.

I've read, and I've written, and now I will poem:
How angrily I sit
Knowing what I know, but not much more
Comes to me.
I battle the hiccups and yawns
Over and over
While I strive to learn a little bit here or there
And think
Did Dad have these same battles?
I saw him often reading at night.
