With the advent of discovering and managing fire came cooking - and now HS could more easily and quickly digest wheat, rice & potatoes.  I never thought about that; in fact, I toyed with the idea that I should sometime eat a raw potato, so that I could find out if it were really true that, when holding one's nose, one could not distinguish between a piece of raw apple and a piece of raw potato.  I suppose I'll never conduct such an experiment, since it seems a foregone conclusion that the author of SAPIENS (Yuval Harari) would have said as much.

WRITING

From reading SAPIENS, I learned that we Homo Sapiens (HS) likely lived in fear of other mammals for 2 million years.  We ate plants and insects and the leftovers after other mammals killed and ate first.

The author believes that only recently did HS learn how to dominate all other mammals, and become the most powerful animal on earth.

Ecriture automatique.  I am at a loss today.  For the first time, I was unable to complete my specific goal (26 pushups).. I got to 20 and "failed."  But that's ok.  Later, I did 6 more.  I'm not a "failure" but sometimes I feel like age and lack of will are winning against me.

What I learned while reading SAPIENS today:

When females began to walk upright, it narrowed their hips, making childbirth more difficult.  Childbirth is further complicated (constricted) by the human head/brain being so much larger.

Therefore, we need more care after we're born (more than other mammals).  And this leads to the greater need for social interaction.

Who knew?  I knew some of it - the hips narrowing.

But the author extends the ideas associated with walking upright to "loftier vision" and "more time to teach/learn religion."  HA!

Writing

Apparently, we Homo Sapiens brain-consume 25% of our energy when at rest, while other apes only consume 8%.  (something like that).  So..... If you rest 8 or 10 hours a day, you "recharge" your brain using 25 per cent of your energy.

I wonder what happens to George, who rests MUCH MORE than that.  He must send TONS of energy to his brain!  No wonder he's so smart!

I don't know if this is right, but it's a nice idea.

Reading:

Read 1+ minutes in SAPIENS.  Learned that there were at least 6 species of humans on the earth between 2 million years ago, and 10,000 years ago.  But today, there is only one:  homo sapiens.

Scribing:

Writing is not something I can get into for only 1 minute.  But here goes anyway:

The thing is, I on't know why I'm here on earth, unless i's just to be a "placeholder" - to join my parents generation to my kids' generation.

But beyone that, I wonder wy I'm here.  I often ponder the idea that I'm biding time until I get to the REAL reason for my life.  But why would that be?  I'm getting older, and will eventually have physical limitations that might prevent me from doing much.

We'll see.

20180609 I GAVE UP TODAY

Not just waiting for David's "Money call" - but for pursuing anything beyond staying alive.

Nothing seems to matter now.

I give up hoping and "trying" (if I can even call it that) for a better life, the one I dreamed of when David first called me about the "mine job" about 4 years ago.

It's not going to happen, and so I have no ambition to seek anything else.

I'm done.

20180603 NOT ALWAYS

It's how I live my life.

Not always.

Bring your wishes when you come over.  Somehow they'll get out there in the Universe.

HA!  People actually believe that.

"Sex & love can meet, but they're two completely different things."

KRT:  No they're not.  Obviously they're connected when they "meet."  ("meat"?)

Everyone's waiting for the meeting.  I suppose.

But some are actively searching, and some are just okay with letting it happen some day.

KRT:  I didn't buy it to have it.  I bought it to (watch/eat) it.
