Read for 80 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl.  He says that a phenomenon of the 20th C is EXISTENTIAL VACUUM.  It manifests in people having a major increase in free time, and as a result becoming BORED (as opposed to distressed) with their lives.  Automation is partially to blame.  Frankl also addresses the change that early man underwent when he gave up his animal survival & security characteristics, and began to make decisions.

Frankl notes that in a study, young people exhibited the "existential vacuum" a lot more, and Europeans MUCH more than Americans.  (I wonder why that is - I noted that Austrians in the 1960s were MUCH more work-oriented, and tended to accept their lot in life much more readily than did I and my American friends did.)

Frankl also differentiates between "conformism" and "totalitarianism" - conformism is doing what others are already doing, and totalitarianism is doing what others wish you to do.

20240414 S:LLLAVERS FOR SUNDAY - NOT D-DAY, AND I, KEN TAYLOR, ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING I NEED!!!!!!!

NOTE:

A week ago, I received a check overnighted from Canada, refunding almost all the money I had invested in P2P in 2008, about 16 years ago.  So no, it's not the "D-DAY" (I.e., "David Day") I have been anticipating for so long.  But it IS a "P2P-DAY" and I'm quite relieved, knowing that I have a good chunk of money in the bank to serve as an emergency fund.

It's not "D-DAY" and I don't have a financial windfall to allocate funds to various things I'd been planning on.  But I do have SOME things in mind:

1.  Save/share with Timpsons.

2.  A more leisurely trip to Europe in June.

VISUALIZATION
While I continue to visualize weighing less each tomorrow, I gave myself a sort of reprieve from worrying about my weight.  I spent 3-4 days at Paul & John's house, and I ate whatever we had around, and there was no working bathroom scale to keep track.

The result is, sadly, that I gained at least 5 pounds; and now I'm over 200!!  So, back I go again, incrementally losing about 1/2 pound a day, starting at 202.6.  :-(

20240406 SLLLAVERS FOR SATURDAY - NOT D-DAY AS I WAS EXPECTING - AND I, KEN TAYLOR, ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING I NEED!!!!!!!

Today, it's time to write.

I'm in a different place.  It's not D-DAY (I.e., it's not the day when David Timpson calls to say "the mine is sold and we're millionaires" or something like that).

No.  But it IS another kind of "D-DAY" - maybe I should call it "P2P-DAY" (I.e., the day when P2P made restitution).

Friday morning, I lay in bed after having worked for Dr. Pruitt for 4 straight days.  I was mentally exhausted, and gave my self a day off from my usual routine.  I did some leisurely things, but still stretched and had my usual breakfast and played piano for an hour or so.

I decided to get a haircut (went to Daniel's Barber Shop, and it wasn't as good as it had been the 3 times before), and I did some low-energy things, including talking to George in Cyprus for an hour.

I didn't feel guilty about NOT keeping up with my diet/exercise plans, and I knew it would be reflected in my weight (slight gain).

When I was out getting my haircut, I went to a nearby car wash to get a much needed wash.  It was cloudy/blustery but the sun was out.  Even so, on my way back home, it began to sprinkle.  Darn!  Why didn't I wait another day??  I seem to be out of sync so much!  Well, I felt I was too old to get too worked up about it.  So I let it go, and drove home as quickly as I could to keep the car from getting any dirtier.

I went into the house and made some early dinner (what I call my "senior dinner" - it's my 2nd and final meal of the day).  I saw 2 packages Chad had brought in for me.  I took them upstairs to my room, where I usually eat meals, since Chad's "office" is again on the dining room table, and also since I like to eat in front of my TV in my room.

So I ate, and still hadn't opened my 2 packages.

One was blue/white plastic - from Amazon Prime.  It was the filters for my CPAP machine:  I had been expecting them.  But when I opened the other one, I noticed it was a little different:  it was an overnight package addressed to me.  I didn't read the return address at that time; it was from Canada.

If I HAD read the return address, I'd have known that nothing could be coming from Canada except a "settlement" of sorts from the Canadian government with regard to the P2P compensation.

But I just opened it, and inside was another envelope, and inside THAT was a check from the Canadian government for 


                                                    $15,100           !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


I WAS FROZEN WITH DISBELIEF!  I couldn't imagine - it was totally AMAZING!!!!!


How....?  What....?

I never expected to get back anywhere NEAR the amount of money ($16,0-00) I'd invested at P2P in 2008!

I thought it might be anywhere from NONE to maybe 50% or something like that.

WOW!
