SILENCE
Tried to silence brain for 70 seconds; mild success, in spite of waking up with a nagging headache.

I visualize weighing less tomorrow
NOTE: On June 6, about 6 weeks ago, I weighed 196.0, a gain of only 0.8 pounds; and that was with several birthdays, eating 3 meals a day, and July 4th! Not bad!

READING, WRITING
Read for 72 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says that before roughly 1850, life expectancy was significantly lower (25-40) than it is today (60-80). Of the 17 children born to Edward & Eleanor (England), most died in childbirth or soon after. Edward II (the gay one) was the only son to survive long enough to assume the throne. This was a family with all the advantages known to medicine at the time.
Read for 72 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls meeting secretly with Robert Gates (W Bush's Secretary of Defense) to ask him to stay on during the transition; Gates was not a likely candidate for Obama, given Obama's protests against the US policy in Iraq; however, BO saw the advantage of having a Bush man help him with the winding down of US presence in Iraq, and the simultaneous build-up of US presence in Afghanistan.
A lot goes on "behind the scenes" in the US Government, especially during the transfer of power to a new administration. More than I know about, and I'm guessing more than most Americans know about.
Read for 72 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee. He says that throughout prior times, shamans have used various techniques to obtain knowledge: attention to outer events, synchronicities, dreams, intuitions, subtle feelings, experiences in meditation. But now..... there is a "new body of knowledge" coming to us: if we approach it with INDIVIDUAL need, we will not see the whole spectrum. But if we approach it with selfless service to the divine, THEN we'll be shown how to work with the energy fields of life that will benefit the whole of humanity.
Read for 72 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says, using his developed Jeffersonian model, that REASON is the servant of the INTUITION. The rider (reason) was put on the elephant (intuition) to help the elephant.
NOTE: Doesn't the elephant also serve the rider, in some ways? I think so.
I like the images this model brings to mind. With the rider directing the elephant, but keeping in mind that the elephant was "there first," it's easier to remember the elements that Haidt is discussing.
Read for 72 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl. He recalls that the blows he received from guards were difficult to bear, but that the ones the guards DID NOT impart were even more difficult: they seemed to be saying to the prisoners that they were beasts, not even worthy of punishment.
The guards were just plain mean: once Viktor tried to assist a fellow prisoner, but was immediately dealt a blow to his back and told to return to his assigned tasks. This, after the guards also reprimanded the prisoners for not having any comradery.
Read for 1+ pages - 30 min - in ULYSSES by James Joyce.👌
