READING, WRITING
Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says that religion has stated what is "natural" and what is "unnatural." Religious people speculate that the human body was created by God, and therefore each part has a sole and unique purpose; they add that since God is unchanging, therefore the purpose of our beings is also unchanging.
Evolution, however, speculates (postulates?) that the human body has evolved from the "worm-like cells" we were 600 million years ago, and each organ and limb has followed suit. Example: Back then, cells had "mouths" which served as a way to obtain nutrition. But they didn't use their mouths to kiss, spit, etc. Those uses evolved.
Well, I think Harari is correct in all he says; however, as we often note, a God could be behind the process of evolution, and be allowing our mouths to evolve as they have.
But without God in the picture, it's sure that the purposes of cells/bodies is in a constant state of flux - new purposes can evolve from older norms. I'm guessing Harari would include homosexual anal sex as something that has evolved in purpose. But I, for one, have not arrived at a point where I'm comfortable with all aspects of anal sex.
Read for 70 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins. He says in writing just for myself, I will eventually realize that I'm not alone: there are MANY other people like me.
He also says that I will be tempted to write what others want to hear. This is a mistake because it's not how art is created. I will look forward to reading what he says about how are IS created.
He assumes here that I will write because I want to create art. Hmmmmm. I'm not so sure that THAT would be the sole reason I write. I'm guessing that writing also helps me organize my thoughts, crystalize my mushy ideas, and sometimes distracts me from depression.
One more point: I DO, in fact, write for other people in that I am particular about spelling, punctuation, syntax, grammar, etc. My constant thought is, "when someone reads this - if they ever do - they will at least have a clear idea of what I am writing about. Anything less is distracting, IMO.
