READING, WRITING
Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says that recent history (last 500 years) shows that MALE & FEMALE Sapiens have not changed biologically. But MAN/MEN and WOMAN/WOMEN have indeed changed. E.g., women could not vote, but now they can, etc.
Interesting distinctions in defining classifications of Sapiens - biologically and culturally.
Read for 70 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins. He says something conflicting. I won't get hung up on it, but I simply have to point it out to myself.
On the one hand, he says I should say, "I choose to write for one - and only one- person: myself."
On the other hand (and in the very same chapter), he addresses what my audience needs: they need me to poke and prod, not just pander. IOW, I should not merely write what I perceive my audience would like (pander); I should poke and prod my own ideas, while writing for myself.
So it's resolved. And he adds that IF I do this regularly, I will find that my audience will eventually tell me I'm writing worthwhile stuff.
Hmmmm. I don't know where this writing thing is taking me, but I'm going to keep going. The catalyst was telling George about my desire to write, his telling me that he thought I'd be good at it, and his giving me the book.
Now it's up to me to write for myself. I do not need George's (or anyone else's) evaluation of my writing. But Jeff Goins says they'll tell me when it's good.
