READING, WRITING

Read for 70 sec in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says the world's imperialists of the 18thC & 19thC (Europeans, Arabs, Aztecs & others) sought to conquer other lands & peoples.  The Europeans, however, also sought to gain knowledge.  E.g., Napoleon took 175 scientists with him when he conquered Egypt, and thus established a whole new discipline:  Egyptology.

Read for 70 sec in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls, just before giving his inaugural address, he paused and said this prayer:

Read for 70 sec in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt.  He says INTUITIONS come first; Todorov experimented with flashing pics of politicians who competed in races, and determined that the candidate that the people had judged MORE COMPETENT had actually won the races 67% of the time.  When the people judged the candidates' photographs as MORE LIKEABLE and/or MORE ATTRACTIVE, the results were the same.  So..... there is more going on that attractiveness and/or likeability.

Read for 70 sec in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl.  He says that while a prisoner, he had no contact with his family/wife, and yet his inner self was able to connect with her and his love for her.  He learned that love goes far beyond the outward manifestations; let your love set a seal upon my heart.  IOW, no matter how traumatic or even deadly his trials in prison were, his love for his wife was strong and true and eternal.
