READING, WRITING

Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says in 1830s, the Brits' Royal Navy sent a ship to South America to strengthen the UK's claim on South America.  The captain took with him Charles Darwin (then 22) who began his initial observations which led to his theory of evolution.  in 1960s, the US Astronauts trained in the Southwest for their trip to the moon.  A story has it that an old Native American man asked them what they were doing; they replied that they were training for a trip to the moon.  The NA man made them memorize a phrase in his native tongue, but would not tell them what it meant; he made them promise to relay his message to the "spirits" they'd meet on the moon.  The Astronauts later had the phrase translated:  "Don't believe a word these people tell you.  They are there to steal your lands."

Well.  I suppose the UK captain & Darwin were also in South America to steal lands from the Native Americans.
