READING, WRITING, SKETCHING

Read 60 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says that monotheistic beliefs incorporate the idea that it is of no value to solicit every-day blessings from God, since he is not concerned with individuals and their challenges; to him, it makes no difference which country prevails in war, who gets well or dies, etc.  Far Eastern religions (Hindu) adopted the idea that people should embrace whatever good or bad might befall them, but then to tie it to their supreme being (Atman). 

Read 60 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins.  He says I should build long-term relationships with an EDITOR (a person), not a PUBLISHER (NOT a person).  After they publish me, they'll be more likely to publish me again.  I should not start over with someone else, if I can help it.

NOTE:  I am personalizing these post-reading notes; I tend to use "you" instead of "I, me."  I'm the one he's talking to. 

Read 1+ page in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls that on the campaign trail, his history with Rev. Wright (who's exclamation most noted was "GODDAM AMERICA!") threatened to derail him completely.  However, he made a damage repair speech, and his popularity began to tick up again slowly.  His most significant review of the speech came from his Grandmother in Hawaii.

Read 1+ page in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughn-Lee.  He says the mystics can help us all by imparting their knowledge to all who will receive it.  He stresses that this is a NEW transition for our time.  As Christ advised, put new wine into new bottles (not old), so we must perceive and conceive of this transition as a NEW phase, and we are "NEW bottles," receiving NEW wine.  It's a SPIRITUAL, not a physical transition we are now blessed to be part of.

SKETCHING

Today, I did a color "study" - concentric circles from light (yellow) in the center, to dark (black) on the outside.  I am using the 10 markers I have been using in this sketchpad.  I'm going to confine my sketches to these markers, and the 10 colors.

NOTE ABOUT SKETCHING:  I'm "jumping in" to see what it's like, but almost every time I think about drawing/sketching anything, I feel quite inadequate.  And I wonder what GG or Bill or family will think OF it.  Will they secretly say to themselves that I have no artistic talent, and should not bother?  Or that seeing my work is an embarrassment (or OUGHT to be)?

I'm going to TRY not to let those thoughts dominate, and just "produce" artwork of any kind and at any level.
