VISUALIZATION
This morning, I realized, again, that I have approximately 6 weeks (less 3 days) until I leave for Europe. I'm STILL bothered by my protruding gut, and I'm STILL about 10-15 pounds heavier than I'd like to be. SO......
I'm continuing my plan for the next 17 days. I'll continue to lose an average of 1/2 pound every day (10 pounds in 20 days), by continuing the following regimen:
EXERCISE
- FAST DAYS (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)
5:30 - 6:00 1/2 routine
6:00 - 6:30 PIANO6:30 - 7:00 2/2 routine
- SLOW DAYS (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Today turns out to be a "SLOW DAY" - since Dr. P didn't want me to come in.

READING, WRITING
Read for 80 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says that war has become 1) more costly and 2) less profitable, and therefore has become less of a focus by all or most governments. Rather, China and the USA are at peace, and so can compete on economic fields. The Chinese would not gain by an invasion of California, since the wealth of California is now not gold, but silicone and celluloid (pre-digitally).
NOTE: I keep wondering if Harari will 1) mention Puke-in's invasion of Ukraine, and/or 2) Hamas' invasion of Israel, and/or the GOP retreat to making American OLD again. How could he know about these things? He couldn't.
Read for 80 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls how life in the WH was very pleasant in many ways: he got to be home more, he spent more time with MO and their daughters', he had their Chicago cook, handsome Sam Cass, come to the WH to be chef, and Sam turned out to be a younger brother/uncle/basketball buddy/food consultant.... for the Obamas.
NOTE: I'd imagine that BO and family really miss these times.
Read for 80 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says that there is/was a "birth of moral science" that occurred at some time (during the life time of Hume?).
Hume battled the morality discussion with 3 opposing views:
1) Religious scripture is the ultimate source of morality.
2) Science/reasoning is where Morality originates, and it TRANSCENDS human nature.
3) Science/reasoning is where Morality exists, and it is a PART OF human nature.
Hume wrote about the above - he comes down on the "PART OF human nature" as the true analysis of the source of morality.
Read for 80 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl. He says there is self-transcendence, and self-actualization. Self-transcendence is finding meaning in OTHERS and the WORLD, rather than in ONESELF.

DAY 4
I made it to "Day 4" (i.e., 20240514)- !!!!! YAY!!!!!
My new program to lose weight before my trip to Europe next month, consists of the desire to lose weight before I leave (I leave in about 30 days from now).
I've continued well, by doing my routine this morning, and by restricting my diet to 2 meals a day, and each one is going to be portion-controlled, and healthy.
I had dinner at 6:00 PM at John Brinkley's BD party, where I tried to minimize portions; I didn't do all that well, since Paul's cooking is perfection! HOWEVER.... my weight STILL went down by 0.2 pounds!
YAY!
Since my annual checkup last month was good, I'm generally feeling good about my health; however.....
My blood panel showed a mildly alarming glucose level, which is within the range called "pre-diabetic."
REALLY?????? I guess I need to take it seriously, even though the reading was at the lower end of the range called "pre-diabetic." So now I'm more conscious of that I'm eating and how much I'm exercising.
Hence, my new program to lose weight and eat healthier. I'm on Day 4.
The "Internet" tells me that if you're "pre-diabetic" you should:
- ✅Eat healthy foods: a diet high in fruits and vegetables, nuts, whole grains and olive oil
- ✅Exercise more.
- ✅Lose excess weight (that's part of my plan)
- ✅Quit smoking (never started)
- ✅Take meds as needed.
The list is posted on my dresser mirror.
So far, I've done MOST of the above for 4 days. YAY!! I'm visualizing success!!
BUT..... I was disappointed this morning when I weighed myself, and I weigh only 0.2 pounds less than I did yesterday. :-(
On the bright side, I didn't gain any weight. And I'm STILL visualizing success!!
