READING, WRITING

Read for 80+ seconds in THE VELVETEEN FATHER by Jesse Green.  He describes the nightmare facing social workers in the late 1980s, when babies/kids were abandoned due to drugs, race, and illnesses (HIV).  I shuddered when I read that babies who could crawl were tethered to their beds crawled in circles all day.  Oh my broken heart.  I too, was tethered to my bed as a young toddler, in Kensington, MD.  My mom couldn't chase after me when I would escape to the neighbor's house (Metropolitan Avenue).  But these New York unwanted crack/HIV babies......... (there are no further words).
