    READING, WRITING

Read for 80 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls how wonderful his first Spring at the WH was: he describes the South Lawn as a "park" with swing sets and basketball hoops and a vegetable garden planted by Michelle. WHY MUST WE GIVE UP SUCH BEAUTIFUL HUMANITY IN THE PRESIDENCY??? This is really making me cry, hurting for the loss of our country as it was under Obama.

Read for 80 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says  young humans, compared to chimps, are naturally cooperative; chimps are not. This trait is called: SHARED INTENTIONALITY.

Read for 80 seconds in SHAMELESS by Brian Tyler Cohen. He says Nixon, Reagan and Trump all used "states rights" as a basis for suppressing the progressive vote (I.e., black vote) in their campaign, thus trying to win as racists. In 2020, Ken Paxton (Texas lawyer) filed a lawsuit against states who helped elect Biden, contending that those states had corrupt voting practices. This marked the beginning of states, unhappy with OTHER states' election results, seeking to overturn and/or control those results.

Read for 80 seconds in HUCKLEBERRY FINN by Mark Twain. For fun.

    ****************

Well, I'm having that fairly rare feeling of having completed everything on my list (see above). I'm feeling good about it, but along with completing the list, and having done so by 10:30 AM, I'm also left with a more negative/bad feeling that I am "living for lists." Is THAT the meaning of my life?

I think it MUST be more than just completing a list of tasks. But what?

On most days, I DON'T complete the list, and the "living for lists" feeling does not surface. So perhaps I should keep a running list of things to do such that I never complete them. Then the bad feelings would never surface.
