READING, WRITING

Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says that science, by itself, cannot guage what to do with its discoveries.  Scientists must necessarily modify/characterize their work to conform with ideology, economics and politics.  If we were to discover how the bovine mind works, we might be able to increase milk production.  But not in Hindu India where cows are already in charge, no matter what scientists may discover.

Next, Harari will address the "marriage of science and empire,"  followed by a chapter on "capitalism."

Read for 70 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls the happy times various presidents have had during inauguration planning, from Dolly Madison to his own in January 2009; he escaped to Hawaii for Christmas.

Read for 70 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.  He says divine consciousness, or "sirr" must be given teacher to teacher, and must be made known (not secret as in prior eras).

Read for 70 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt.  He says that, in sum, Hume was right:  moral reasoning begins with the ELEPHANT, not the RIDER.

Read for 70 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl.  He recalls how prisoners would have nightmares, but he did not wake them, since the reality of their lives was far worse than any nightmare.  He also remembers discussions (when supervisors were away) among prisoners about the details of delicate foods, etc.  He thought it somehow wrong for them to focus on what they could not have, though they often stated that "when they were liberated, they'd have all the food they wanted."

Read for 1+ pages in ULYSSES by James Joyce.
