READING, WRITING
Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says there was a "military-industrial-scientific complex" that did not take off (i.e., created a HUGE gap between Europe and the rest of the world) until 1850. Before that, the military-industrial-scientific complex gap among major populations was still small. So, Harari asks, "Why did the gap widen between Europe and the rest of the world?" He hints it was the science that made the difference, enabling Europe to conquer the world.
Read for 70 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls getting ready for his inauguration, and being concerned about the mood of the country: tough times lay ahead, and yet the country seemed jubilant about his arrival at the WH; he decided to let the country celebrate for a few weeks, and toned down his realistic talk/warnings about the future being challenging, etc.
Read for 70 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee. He says the music of the soul of the earth is the best; it will facilitate us stepping into the darkness (which is needed) and bringing the message of God to the world. Vaughan-Lee asks why we would hesitate to step into the darkness, since it cannot harm us.
I'm imagining being a being (perhaps a child of God) who is aware of darkness, and thinking, "This is an opportunity to bring the music/magic of God to the world," rather than to avoid it. IOW, bring on the hard times!
Read for 70 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He expands on his theory of rider (reason) on elephant (affect). He relates the metaphor to a study about how we react to words. A quarter of a second (250 miliseconds) is all it takes for us to read a word and begin to formulate affects about it.
Read for 70 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl. He recalls that in the camp, some prisoners formed a group to hold a seance. Without any evidence of any supernatural being making its presence known, the group ended with one man slowly writing a Latin phrase ("Vae Victis" - meaning "woe to the vanquished") on a paper; he asserted he'd never learned Latin. Frankl thinks that the man must have heard the Latin phrase at least once during his life, and hence was able to write it due to his subconscious memory. This happened a few months before their liberation & the end of the war.
