Reasons I'm AGAIN motivated are
  1. I already have everything I need.
  2. George tells me that if a person can stand on one foot for X seconds/minutes, then s/he will likely live longer.
  3. I feel better overall when I'm doing my exercises regularly
So, if I lose approx 0.5 pounds every day, I should be down to approx. 
190 by May 16th.

Here's how I've done during the last 24 hours:

  1. Diet:  I had XXXXX meals yesterday: 1) my smoothie & coffee around 10-11am; and 2) frozen dinner + 2 slice buttered & jam toast + chips + X fig newton (covered with peanut butter & or jam) + pickle & cheese sandwich for dinner at around ALL DAY pm  UGHHH
  2. I did not eat anything between these meals (approx 10-12 hours fasting)
  3. I exercised (full routine - see below)
  4. It's May 9th, and I weigh (199.0 - 6.2) 192.8

READING, WRITING

Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says Knowledge is Power; we generally do not understand the mathematics of nuclear physics.  But our leaders understand what a nuclear bomb can do.  Therefore, says Harari, knowledge is not merely "knowing the truth" - rather, it's knowing what theories can DO.


Read for 70 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He remembers his first visit to the Oval Office as President (or EVER).... and he describes it.  I had not known that it was so small, and that the lights are never turned off (24/7).  I am saddened to think, today, that some day the lights might go off - if ever we should lose our democracy.



Read for 70 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.  He says, in a new chapter, that MAGIC is still real.  There is "fake" magic of magicians/performers who merely do visual tricks to make us think they have some sort of power.  But Vaughan-Lee then introduces the idea that there is REAL, or TRUE magic, which gives everyone the power to alter the course of human physical/spiritual life.  For example, one might heal one's ache through the power of self-healing.  Or, one might cause a change in the community or the entire earth, very subtle, that could alter things for the better.  Vaughan-Lee also says there are both GOOD magic, and BAD magic.  The good kind is healing & humanitarian.  The bad kind is greed for wealth or power.


Read for 70 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt.  He says that he and his assistant Scott conducted interviews with subjects about taboo activities (incest, canibalism), and asked the subjects why they thought (or did not think) that an activity was inappropriate.  The results were "Humean" (i.e., followed Hume's model, "reason is the slave of the passions"), or IOW, the subjects' feelings determined their conclusions, and not their thinking.



Read for 70 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl.  He says his group of prisoners got the "finger" treatment - meaning that if a Capos pointed his finger to the right, you were not killed in the next few hours; and if he pointed it to the left, you were sent immediately to the crematorium and killed.

MY NOTE:  This is horrible stuff, and I'm not sure why I'm reading it right now.  I suppose it's mostly in order to educate myself about it; but mostly, I'm reading as a direct result of George's casual mention of Frankl's book, and how it had some significance for him.  I'm reading because I want to be conversant should it ever come up again with George or anyone else.
