READING, WRITING

Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says the empires that have conquered and amalgamated smaller societies/countries have done so for 2 reasons:  1)  It makes governing easier, and 2)  sharing technology benefits both the governors and the governed.

Agreed.

Read for 70 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins.  He says I need to "win fans" by giving people what they want.  Since I don't KNOW yet what they want, I should strike out into some unknown/dangerous territory, and see what happens.  Then, after I get a response, I'll know better (and better) what people want.

I'm wondering where I can address "I'd like to write what "I" want, and not necessarily what others want." ?????  In architecture school, we learned that we should not always build what other people want.  Sometimes, they don't KNOW what they want.

Goins seems to be saying that I should find out what other people want to read, and then write that.  Oversimplifying?  Maybe.  But he HAS to address this dilemma sometime.

Read for 1 page in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls learning on the campaign that in the wake of wins & losses, he strove to look at the big picture, the long view.  Wins convinced him he could be President one day, and losses taught him to remain level-headed and calm in crises.  He also acknowledges his grandmother (Toot) who was the sensible force in BO's life.

Read for 70 seconds+ in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.  He says that the revelation of the energy of the earth is largely hidden, but is now being revealed more and more by the Friends of God.  He tells of a "pole" whose identity was hidden from other Friends of God..... and his message was delivered without revealing his identity.

Read for 70 seconds+ in THE PERSIAN BOY by Mary Renault for fun!

Read for 70 seconds + in C, ST and H by John Boswell.  Well, I didn't read, I studied.  I researched.  What Larry Mann said about the use of the term "Dark Ages" (he said it was a mistake, and perhaps borderline racist).  Boswell uses it ("Dark Ages") when referring to a time slot in history, and not necessarily as anything more than that.  The Internet yields:

"Medieval historians" no longer use "Dark Ages" to refer to the 4th C - 14th C Europe.  It's pejorative, and it negates any progress that might have occurred (some say "DID occur") during this time.

Read for a bit in ILLUSIONS by Richard Bach.   Actually, I plan to do this with George when we talk again on the phone.
