READING, WRITING
Read 60 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He speculates on the likely development of how humans domesticated animals, and goes into detail about how sheep might have ended up as a corralled animal on a farm. The nomads could have herded the sheep to keep them from predators (lions), and eventually could have slaughtered the "correct" rams, ewes and lambs so as to end up with a fatter and more docile farm animal.
I'm speculating that IF what Harari says is close to the reality of the evolution of herding and domesticating farm animals during the Agricultural Revolution (12.5K BC to 8.5KBC), then what would sheep, pigs, etc. have been like had humans NOT evolved into farmers.
Harari calls the evolution of farmers and raising grains a "Faustian bargain;" i.e., humans sold their true selves to farming.
Hmmm...... I wonder. He could be right. But it's soooooo very sepculative (to me), I still doubt that it really "happened that way." I just don't know.
