  2. NOT eating anything between meals.

Reasons I'm AGAIN motivated are
  1. David's D-Day will likely happen sometime between now and APRIL 11, and I want to be in as good of physical (and therefore mental) shape as I can be.
  2. George tells me that if a person can stand on one foot for X seconds/minutes, then s/he will likely live longer.
  3. I feel better overall when I'm doing my exercises regularly
So, if I lose a pound every 1-2 days, I should be down to approx. 190 by April 11th.

Here's how I've done during the last 24 hours:

  1. Yesterday, I had only 2 meals:  1) smoothie & coffee at 10-11am, and 2) Frozen (steamed) dinner w/1 slice bread dinner at 4pm
  2. I had NOTHING between these meals.
  3. I exercised yesterday morning, and I exercised this morning (see below)
  4. It's April 6th, and I still weigh (199.0 - 4.4 ) 194.6

READING, WRITING

Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says that after the war against Hitler, we (Sapiens) stopped trying to exterminate "lower" races.  But we are still trying to create a super human being.  This has left us with an increasingly (over the last 200 years) huge gulf between 1) LIBERAL HUMANISM and SCIENCE (the latest findings of).  He states:
  • our liberal, political & judicial systems are founded on the belief that every individual has a sacred inner nature, indivisible and immutable
  • this belief gives meaning to the world
  • this belief is the source of all ethical and political authority
  • this belief reincarnates the traditional Christian belief that a free and eternal soul resides within each individual
  • this belief has been thoroughly undermined by SCIENCE (over last 200 years)
  • SCIENCE has found no soul inside the human being
  • SCIENCE believes that human behavior is determined by hormones, genes and synapses - not by Free Will
  • Judicial and political systems try to sweep such findings under the carpet
  • ASKS:  how long can we keep the wall between the Biology Department and the Political Science Department and the Law Department?

MY NOTE:  So Harari is drawing a picture of a "battle" between SCIENCE and HUMANISM.  I can see that.  But I'm not so sure that if there IS in fact a soul within me, it could be that SCIENCE has not yet found it.  Meanwhile, I will continue to subscribe to SCIENCE as a more sure means of finding truth and meaning in my life.



Read for 70 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls talking to his associate/friend George about the RE boom/bust in 2007..... BO did not understand why, if the bust were so inevitable (as George believed), the rest of the economy weren't even talking about it.  George could not answer.

MY NOTE:  I DO recall, in 2006-2007, being warned from several sources that the RE boom could not continue indefinitely, and that would likely be a bust.  My response at the time was to "stay the course," which I did.  My 401K and my RE investments kept their value, for the most part, through the crash of 2008.


Read for 70 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.  He says we should tred lightly and learn when to speak, and when to remain silent.  We should be ready to allow others to make mistakes, and follow their own paths.  We should also guard against too strong a focus on our own achievement, lest me put ourselves above God.


Read for 70 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt.  He says Turiel's position that kids come to moral understandings using HARM as an identifier.  But he (Haidt) wonders, "even if Turiel is right, how come tribes and religions both conclude that morality is MORE than just whether something HARMS you, or not."  Tribes and religions extend morality to food and sex, and so Haidt asks, "Where did that come from?  There must be more to it."
