READING, WRITING
RUMI
Read for 80 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. He says that the last 200 years have been characterized by constant and rapid change, such that we've come to expect it, rather than two say "That's the way it was, and that's the way it will always be" - as so many prior generations said.
NOTE: In some ways, there WERE revolutionary revolutions prior to 1800: After Alexander the Great conquered the Middle East, they, in fact DID change a lot of their ways. But, of course, not like we are doing today with computers, AI, etc..... all drastically changing our way of life.
Read for 80 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama. He recalls how, after TIm Geithner's flub (his speech), the GOP crowed and the Dems worried. But BO and Tim were still a team, and they began preps for putting Tim's plan into action. BO also preped for his first SOTU address before Congress.
Read for 80 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt. He says, quoting Schweder, "We are multiple from the start." Haidt says this cannot be overstated when it comes to considerations of our "RIGHTEOUS MIND" developing over our lifetimes. Our views in early years usually don't reveal our complete selves; rather, we grow and change and become aware of other societies (or become a parent, or travel, or read a book), and we draw on our existing "multiples" that color how we now think.
Read for 80 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl. He says as a person develops his life/searches for meaning, he should NOT seek homeostasis (biological term for "no tension"); rather it is the tension in his life that allows him to find the meaning he's seeking.
