READING, WRITING

Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says there is a good/unique illustrative example of how one nation conquers a lesser group of countries (tribes) in The British Empire and the Indian sub-continental countries.  They introduced English, British games & customs, British forms of government, and tea (1850s, British East India Company).  But they killed millions of Indians and hurt millions more in the process.  Today, the 3 "tribes" within India all use English as a common language to communicate.  So what do we make of this?  It's both a good and a bad thing.  But all that being as it was (and still is), many Indians resented the hypocrisy of Britain, who preached self-determination, but would not allow Indians that same opportunity.  Damn Brits!

Read for 70 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins.  He says that at the beginning of my writing career, I should not become "sold" on one idea; rather, I should let the publisher tell me what will be a good subject to write about.  They are in the business of selling words, and they already know what will sell.  As I continue to write, and become more and more well versed, well known, and well published, I will earn the right to determine my own subjects to write about.

OK, I see all that.

Read for 1 page + in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls that his speech in Rev. Lowrey's church generated much enthusiasm among the Black church-goers; he was also invited to push another Reverend in his wheelchair across the bridge, which he did.  He thought about how these Black people had endured unspeakable hardships, and yet were still fighting.  He observed that his own burdens were significantly lighter, and yet all of them illustrated the need to keep fighting, and that he was doing the right thing.

10 months later, he was embroiled in the South Carolina primary, where the politics of their primary was less about values and more about old-fashioned political campaign turmoil - NOT like Iowa had been.  His campaign desperately needed a win in SC to stay in the fight.

Read for 70 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewelyn Vaughan-Lee.  He says that "NOW" (versus "UNTIL NOW"), we are called upon to offer ourselves as we are to God.  We need not deny or empty ourselves of that which we are; rather, "donate" what/who we are to the Oneness of God, and we will be a better part of the WHOLE, the ONENESS.

This is a bit hard for me to grasp; and yet it feels right.  I have led a life mostly of thinking and feeling that I was "doing it wrong," and that I hadn't done much of significance.  With this new view, I can keep whatever I am TODAY, submit it to God, and he will accept me/my life and build upon it.

Did I get that right?

Read for 1 page + in THE PERSIAN BOY by Mary Renault

********

Today's the 8th consecutive day I've done my routine; I've begun to feel better physically.  My mind seems to be working better, too.  I did not struggle to begin my routine, as is sometimes the case.  I'm pleased with this progress.
