READING, WRITING

Read for 70 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says religion is one of the 3 great unifiers of our societies:  along with money and empires.  Religion gives people a common authority to keep our fragile empires & governments from falling apart.  Religion is:  a system of human norms and values that are founded on the belief in a supernatural order.

Read for 70 seconds in YOU ARE A WRITER by Jeff Goins.  He says I should keep in mind that in general, writers edit their work & should plan for the time it takes to do so.  HIS experience is that for a 25,000 word magazine article, he'd spend 5-25 HOURS writing and editing.  He advises NOT to calculate how much money per hour is thus earned, and I should keep in mind that writers do NOT write for the money (in general).

Read for 1+ pages in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He remembers that as his campaign began to win state after state primaries, he had to remember that losses were also possible ("Remember New Hampshire").

During this period, as he began to gain national recognition, the rumors began about his legitimacy as an American citizen (Indonesian roots, Kenyan roots, dubious background rumors and lies, etc. began to surface in the media).

NOTE:  I recall Danette, during Obama's presidency, discussing Obama's origins by saying "We're not even sure if he's an American."

Read for 70 seconds in WORKING WITH ONENESS by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.  He says "we have the capacity to be conscious of life's oneness."  I struggle with the "messiness" of being a being, and since I was evolved (or created) to be who/what/how I am, then how is it that I can have the capacity to contemplate myself?  Or others?  Might it be impossible for there be an element of my creation that contemplates itself?

It seems to me that I could be drastically mistaken in this situation:  Perhaps I do not even exist.  And if I DO, how can I perceive of just what I am, if I'm using the process of contemplation to do so?  Seems quite messy to me.

I am a messy human being.

Read for 1+ pages in THE PERSIAN BOY by Mary Renault.
