READING, WRITING

Read for 80 seconds in SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari.  He says some Euro/Russian scientists are experimenting with the frozen DNA of woolly mammoths, somehow reconstructing the egg, and implanting it in a modern-day elephant.  The first woolly Mammoth in 5,000 years would then be born.  (I have not heard of this happening).  Harari then asks "why stop there?" and explains that we could possibly do the same to create the first Neandertal being in 30,000 years.  Harari says we might be morally obligated to "resurrect" Neanderthals, since we "conquered" them and they went extinct.

Read for 80 seconds in A PROMISED LAND by Barack Obama.  He recalls dealing with the 2008 downturn/recession crisis, and meeting with his team about what they must do about Chrysler being so close to going under.  BO decided to bail them out, in large part due to his obligation to the Chrysler workers who would have lost their jobs.

BO was our last REALLY GOOD president.

Read for 80 seconds in THE RIGHTEOUS MIND by Jonathan Haidt.  He says the left (socialists) believe the rich should not have any tax advantage, and the poor (middle class) should be given a fair share of "the goods."  And the right (capitalists) believe the rich (high achievers) SHOULD have tax advantages, and that government should spread their work ethic (and not their wealth).

This is the crux of our dilemma in the USA today.

Read for 80 seconds in MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor Frankl.  He says patients are often "caught" in the loop of cause factor, which creates psychological fears, which in turn can cause the factors to occur.... etc.  New word:  etiology (study of the cause and/or origin of the way things are).  He's stepping beyond this traditional view, and seeking to break the loop (or trap) patients are in.
